This article will guide on how an agent can record a Voice or Video call. In case of a Video Call, the entire call with video can be recorded into an .mp4
file. The complete guide for both Web and Mobile is provided.
Video Service Desk provides you with two different types of call recording options:
Local Recording
Cloud Recording
Note: Recording is NOT enabled by default and is an optional feature. To enable recording for your account, please contact Video Service Desk or simply call us using the VSD Button available within the Admin Dashboard.
Note: Local Recording is only possible with the web version of Video Service Desk. An agent must use Google Chrome as their browser for local recording to work. For Cloud Recording, there is no such requirement.
Difference Between Local and Cloud Recording #
Local recording is stored on the agent's computer who attends the call. Cloud Recording is directly sent to a central storage server as soon as a call ends.
Cloud recordings are charged per minute while local recordings are free.
Cloud recordings can be accessed via APIs. So, if you want to display these cloud recordings in an application of your own, you should choose Cloud Recording.
Local recordings use agent's computer resources. If agent's browser crashes, the recording could be lost. On the other hand, cloud recordings will be stored successfully even if the participants get disconnected.
Which Recording Type Do I Need? #
Choose Local Recording If #
Your agents have decent computer hardware and great Internet connectivity.
They won't need to record calls from their mobile.
You are okay to consolidate the recordings from each agent.
You are tight on the budget.
Choose Cloud Recordings If #
You do not want the shortcomings of local recordings as mentioned above.
You want to access your recordings via API.
You need to store the recordings into your own cloud account for compliance.
You are okay to spend a nominal per minute flat rate as mentioned on our Pricing Page.
